HYDERABAD: The accused in the brutal attack on a newly-wed couple in Hyderabad on Thursday told police that his intention was only to kill his daughter as she was the main culprit in the inter-caste marriage.
Manohara Chary (42), accused of brutally assaulting his daughter Madhavi and son-in-law Sandeep, told police his intention was only to kill Madhavi.
Twenty-year-old Madhavi and 24-year-old Navdeep got married earlier this month in Hyderabad against the wishes of her father. They were in love for the last five years. It was an inter-caste marriage.
Madhavi's parents wanted to fix her marriage with her maternal uncle, but she married her lover belonging to the scheduled caste (SC) one week ago. Chary did not like her daughter getting married against his wishes and duped the newly married couple to come to shopping for buying new clothes. Both were attacked immediately after visiting the shop.
Chary told to police that he came to Hyderabad when Madhavi was only two years old. He used to work at a jewellery shop. He said he loved his daughter very much and he was so depressed after his daughter left the home and married against his wishes. "For the last five days have been only drinking to forget my daughter but it was not possible for me. I got angry because she don't have any respect towards me. I can't forgive her for that. Even though I don't like Sandeep, I don't have any negative feeligs towards him because the main culprit is my daughter not he. I attacked him in anger but had no intention to kill him." Chary told to police with tears in his eyes.
Madhavi who lost her arm in attack is being treated in Yashoda hospital. Her hand was amputated. Her nerves connecting brain and ears were damaged because of the sickle used in the attack. Doctors performed operation for 10 hours. Her condition is stated to be critical.
